Yuelin (Jolene) Zhao was born and raised in Beijing, China. She left her hometown for Portland, Oregon at the age of 16. With a strong passion in storytelling, she decided to go on an adventure in filmmaking without hesitation since she made her first short video in high school. She then majored in Visual Art Media and minored in Communication at University of California San Diego. After working as the production assistant for the LEGO Ninjago series in Pure Imagination Studio for a year, she is now a LA-based director and production designer who graduated with an MFA Film Production degree at University of Southern California School of Cinematic Arts. As of now, Jolene has worked on several award-winning short films including Where Dreams Rest, Kindling, and A Sunburnt Summer as the production designer. She has also worked on a Tesla 3 Spec Commercial that has gained more than 100 thousand views on Youtube and collaborated with Jubilee Media on their web series, Tea For Two S2, both as the production designer. She recently worked on Disney Launchpad and Indeed's Rising Voices program. Jolene believes that film is a medium where her imagination can come alive. She loves a wide range of stories - from building worlds of dystopia and fantasy to observing people and ordinary things.
